Generation whY!? Using Tampons To Get Drunk

This week’s Generation whY!? article focuses on the consumption of alcohol. Though we are not the first generation to enjoy the effects of alcohol (have you seen some of your friends parents?), Generation Y has certainly utilized some of the most absurd and rather disgusting ways to consume it. One of which includes using tampons.

It has been reported over the last few years that many teens are soaking tampons in alcohol, and then inserting them either vaginally or anally, to enable themselves to get drunk. Sounds like an easy way to get a yeast infection to me! And it’s not just women using this mechanism, but men too. As a male, I don’t even know how to work a tampon, nonetheless soak it in alcohol and figure out a way to shove it in my rectum. Tampons are made for periods, not for colons. (Punctuation humor!)

How desperate does a person have to be that they are willing to partake in this disgusting display of alcoholic dependence? But even more disturbing, I can’t believe it actually works! Though apparently rumors of this gruesome activity have existed for some years now, it has never been this prevalent and forefront.

The reason why some claim to partake in this disturbing activity is to avoid having the smell of alcohol on their breath. Apparently these people have never heard of gum, mints, mouthwash or binaca, all of which do not involve anal or vaginal insertion! Doesn’t it sting?

Another apparent reason people choose to partake is to bypass the stomach and avoid the calories. Sure, we all would prefer to keep off the calories, but at what expense? Drink Skinnygirl vodka, chase with a Diet Coke, avoid eating 50 pretzels at the pre-game; these are all much more sensible solutions.

In a million years I could never see myself in a situation where I was so desperate, that I would decide the logical thing to do would be to shove a tampon soaked in alcohol up my rear. If it’s sneaking alcohol into somewhere that I’m worried about, there’s always the solution of taping a flask to your leg. Or how about just pre-gaming harder and calling it a night? The only times alcohol and tampons should be connected, is when a girl is too drunk to remember she has a tampon in and decides to have sex.

I guess it must be a pleasant surprise to take off a girl’s pants and discover she isn’t actually getting her period, but is in fact actually getting wasted. But at the same time, there are plenty of ways to consume alcohol; shoving tampons up your body should never be one of them! As amusing as the thought of getting drunk by going down on a girl is, I think I’d prefer my vaginas virgin.

Anyone reading this who has ever partaken in this activity, or is currently clenching one in right now, I hope this article has convinced you to abandon ship. Men, I agree sometimes it’s fun to get drunk and act reckless, but whatever the activity may be, it should always be recTUM-less. And ladies, if you’re so insistent on having something consumed with alcohol shoved up your vagina, go have sex!

Premier Li Keqiang’s visit: India and China in border row pledge

20 May 2013 Last updated at 11:44 ET

The BBC’s Andrew North explains: ”There is a lot to lose”

Visiting Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has said India and China must “improve mechanisms” to settle a long-running border dispute, pledging his commitment to “peace and tranquility”.

Premier Li was speaking during a joint address with his Indian counterpart, PM Manmohan Singh, in the capital, Delhi.

Mr Singh said special representatives from the two countries would meet soon to discuss ways to end the row.

The meeting comes after a recent flare-up in border tensions.

Premier Li arrived in Delhi on Sunday in the first stop of his maiden foreign trip since taking office.

The two neighbours are the world’s two most populous countries.

During Monday’s talks, the two sides discussed trade ties and other bilateral issues and signed eight agreements.

“We don’t deny there are problems between the two sides,” Premier Li said. “We need to improve border related mechanisms and make them more efficient,” he added.

“Both Mr Singh and I believe there are far more interests than differences between our two sides. We need to confront issues with a broad mind, and tackle them in a mature way,” he said.

PM Singh said India and China had “agreed that our special representatives will meet soon to continue discussions seeking an early agreement on a framework for a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable boundary settlement”.

“Peace and tranquillity on our border has to be preserved,” he said.

A decades-long border dispute flared up last month after India accused Chinese troops of crossing the countries’ de facto frontier.

The dispute over the territory in the Ladakh region has dogged the two countries since the 1950s.

At an informal meeting on Sunday night, Mr Singh told Mr Li that a recent military standoff on the Himalaya border could affect relations between the two countries.

Both sides, however, were keen to ensure that the border spat did not derail a general warming in relations between the neighbours and the two leader talked of “more shared interests than differences”.

China is already one of India’s top trading partners and both countries have already agreed a new $100bn (£65bn) bilateral trade target for 2015.

Premier Li said he had agreed to address India’s concerns about the size of the trade deficit with China.

On his arrival in Delhi, Premier Li said said his decision to choose India for his first foreign visit since taking office “indicates the great importance Beijing attaches to its relations” with Delhi.

During his three-day visit in India, he is also expected to meet Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi and leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha [the lower house of Indian parliament] Sushma Swaraj.

He is also scheduled to address university students in Delhi and business leaders in Mumbai, India’s financial capital, before travelling on to Pakistan, Switzerland and Germany.

New Study Reveals Smoking Weed Reduces The Risk Of Diabetes

New Study Reveals Smoking Weed Reduces The Risk Of Diabetes

A new study has found that marijuana could reduce the risk for diabetes. Marijuana users take in more food calories than nonusers, but recent research has found that for some reason, marijuana users also have lower body mass index levels than nonusers.

Lower body mass index means lower risk for obesity, diabetes and various other weight-related issues. The basis of this study was to find out what effects THC has on metabolism and insulin levels.

Diabetes is usually caused by a metabolic disorder that occurs when the body’s cells cannot properly absorb insulin. Researchers consulted the results of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, a cross-sectional test administered to thousands of adults each year by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Out of the 4,576 participants, 579 were regular marijuana users. 1,975 used the drug in the past but not recently and 2,103 had never smoked marijuana in their lives.

The regular users had 16% lower fasting insulin levels than nonusers and 17% lower insulin-resistance levels. Regular users also had smaller average waist sizes and healthier cholesterol levels as well.

“These are indeed remarkable observations that are supported by basic science experiments that came to similar conclusions,” Dr. Joseph Alpert, professor of medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Tucson, said in a statement.

To test their results, the researchers applied the same test to people who had been diagnosed with type-2 diabetes.

“After we excluded those subjects with a diagnosis of diabetes the associations between marijuana use and insulin levels, [insulin resistance], waist circumference and HDL-C were similar and remained statistically significant,” Dr. Elizabeth Penner, a co-author of the study, said in a statement.

“Is it possible that THC will be commonly prescribed in the future for patients with diabetes or metabolic syndrome alongside antidiabetic oral agents or insulin for improved management of this chronic illness? Only time will answer this question for us,” Alpert said in an editorial accompanying the article in the journal.

“We desperately need a great deal more basic and clinical research into the short- and long-term effects of marijuana in a variety of clinical settings such as cancer, diabetes and frailty of the elderly,” Alpert wrote.
